Attendance

Attendance:

Regular and punctual attendance is a habit directly related to student success. Students need to attend school every day if our staff is to do the best job possible of educating your child. Students need to attend school every day in accordance with the Compulsory School Attendance Act (RCW 28A.225). The exceptions to this are personal illness or injury, quarantine, death in the family, professional appointments, family emergency. Participation in authorized school related activities and opportunities of extraordinary educational value outside of school can also be excused if they are pre-arranged.
Excused Absences:

Parents are asked to please call the school office prior to 9:00 a.m. if their child will be absent. Our number is 683-7792. If a student has not been reported absent from school, the office staff will call home or the emergency contact number to establish the whereabouts of the child. The safety of each student is of critical concern to us.

The State law requires a written excuse for absence or tardiness. To excuse an absence, parents are asked to include the following:

date of note
date of absence
specific reason for the absence
time of dismissal (if applicable)
signature of parent
phone number where parent may be reached

Telephone and other electronic communication with the parent or guardian will be accepted if the above information is documented by school personnel. If your child has frequent absences for illness you may be required to provide a note from your doctor.

All students are expected to attend class on time (Board Policy #5340-10). If your child is tardy, please make sure that either you or your child stops at the office to let us know that he/she has arrived. Parents wishing to pick their child up early should send a note with their child in the morning. Parents must sign students out in the office and present picture identification. If someone other than the parent will be picking up your child, please send a note with your child and make sure that the person has picture identification with him/her.
Unexcused Absences

Missed bus, overslept, up late the night before, lost car keys, etc. are unexcused absences. Parents have a responsibility to make sure their children are in school on time each day as required by RCW 28A.225.010. Students having 5 or more unexcused absences in a month, or 10 total, may be referred to the Juvenile Justice System (Becca Law).
