Emergency Plans

Emergency Dismissals

In the event of a sustained power failure, sudden snow, or other unusual circumstance, it might be necessary to dismiss school early. Parents and students should formulate emergency plans together in the even school closes early and there is no adult at home. School personnel will make every attempt to reach parents or emergency contacts that are on file. Parents will want to make sure their child knows what to do and where to go in advance since it may not be possible to alert parents ahead of time.
Make a Family Emergency Plan Now!

In case of Earthquake, Windstorm, or another Disaster that makes it impossible to contact parents, students may have to remain at school. Families are asked to be sure that their child has an Emergency Preparedness Kit available with food and other supplies to sustain him/her for up to three days. Parents must also fill out an Emergency and Health Information card for each child. Copies of the card will be kept with the emergency preparedness kit and also in the main office (Preparedness Helps Everyone). Preparing for a disaster helps everyone in the family accept the fact that disasters can happen and provides an opportunity to identify and collect the resources needed to meet basic needs after a disaster. Preparedness includes:

* Talking about damage that may be caused by disasters that can strike in our area of the country.
* Deciding on a number to call and a place where the family will reunite if separated by a disaster.
* Pulling together supplies of basic items: food, water, battery, radio, flashlight, etc.
* Selecting valued personal items for each member of the family to take if you are required to leave your home. For a child, such items may include a favorite toy blanket or other item that the child uses as a source of comfort when upset.
* Safeguarding personal possessions with emotional importance such as photographs, family heirlooms, baby books, or other items that can’t be replaced. Be sure to include one or two items that your child is especially proud of.
